Photos and reports of birds seen in our area in recent months will be posted here with the approximate location.  While the main focus will be on the Frostproof – Babson Park – Lake Wales area, sightings throughout Polk County will be included as well.  If you wish to contribute a photo or photos, please send them to jomarlin@bellsouth.net along with where and when it was taken, and any other pertinent information.  Recent sightings only, please!  No picture, no problem, just send an email with the information.


  • Week of October 14:  Bald Eagle pair, Great-crested Flycatcher, Baltimore Oriole, Carolina Wren, Mallard, by Gail French and Jacque Woodward, in Hillcrest Heights.

  • Week of October 22:  Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Cooper’s Hawk, American Kestrels, Bald Eagles, Pied-billed Grebe (Crooked Lake), Eastern Phoebe, Hillcrest Heights by Gail French and Jacque Woodward.  Palm Warblers, Pine Warblers, Loggerhead Shrike. American Kestrels in Babson Park, by Joanne Wilson.

  • October 28th: Northern Harrier, Babson Park

  • Week of November 4th: Belted Kingfisher, Baltimore Oriole, Eastern Phoebe; spotted in Hillcrest Heights by Gail French and Jacque Woodward.  Norther Harrier, spotted twice in Babson Park by Joanne Wilson.
